Legend of Manibandh Shakti Peeth:
Once, there was a great yagna (sacrificial ritual) being performed by King Daksha, Sati’s father. He invited all the deities and celestial beings to the yagna but deliberately excluded Lord Shiva. Sati, who was deeply devoted to Shiva, was deeply hurt by her father’s actions and decided to attend the yagna against Shiva’s wishes.
When Sati reached her father’s palace, she was unable to bear the insults and humiliation heaped upon her husband, Lord Shiva. In a state of extreme distress, she leaped into the sacrificial fire and immolated herself. This act of self-immolation led to the emergence of a divine fire that threatened to engulf the universe.
Lord Shiva, upon hearing of Sati’s sacrifice, was filled with grief and rage. He began the cosmic dance of destruction, the Tandava, carrying Sati’s lifeless body on his shoulder. In the process, he performed the Rudra Tandava, which has the power to destroy the universe.
To stop Lord Shiva’s dance and prevent further destruction, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshana Chakra (discus) to dismember Sati’s body. The Manibandh Shakti Peeth is believed to be the place where the “Chin” or “Manibandh” (wrist) of Sati’s body fell.
The Manibandh Shakti Peeth, like other Shakti Peethas, is considered a place of great spiritual significance and is visited by devotees seeking the blessings of the goddess. These sacred sites are an integral part of Hindu pilgrimage and hold a special place in the hearts of millions of Hindus.
